The kit comes with just about everything you need to get started with hosting and planning your own events. It all started when I was doing my own research back in 2005 on how to put together a singles speed dating event. I searched high and low for anything that would help me with my event, but I found NOTHING! Once I got my events started, learned everything I could, and began hosting successful events. I decided it was time to share my knowledge and help others with the areas where I once struggled. I knew there had to be other’s out there who wanted the information that I gathered. Being single is not all that bad, unless dating season is over or coming to an end and the Holiday Season has arrived. As we all know, the warmer months are great for being single and dating; there is plenty to see and do in the company of a love interest. However, the goal is to find someone to spend time with all year around, not just during the peak season of dating. In case you are wondering, dating season officially begins on Feb 15th, the day after Valentin’s Day and ends November 1st.

If you are starting a between the Holiday Season and Valentine’s Day it can be a bit complicated, especially when it comes to exchanging gifts, meeting family, or bringing in the new year with someone who is not reached that special place in your heart just yet.  A good rule of thumb is less is more when you’ve met someone new during any one of the holidays. A card with thoughtful words is a good start. If you feel compelled to do a bit more, or really like the person, dinner and a nice bottle of wine or champagne will do the trick.

However, if you are single during the holidays (one of the worst times to be single of the year because everyone is with their significant other, sharing love, gifts, and holiday spirit) remember timing is everything. So use the off dating season to reinvent your look, give back & volunteer, study a new language, hit the gym, work on your 5-year-plan, or discover new places in your city (who knows, you may meet someone there when dating season is back). But most of all take this time to be thankful for not being in a crappy relationship or with someone who just isn’t right for you. Your time is coming. Once the holiday season passes, you’ll be an even better catch because your focus and attention had been on improving yourself, your spirit, and your opportunity to meet that perfect someone. Everyone wants to be loved.  When you are busy living life, there never seems time to slow down and really savor that central relationship that makes it all worthwhile.  Oftentimes we think that those closest to us know exactly how we feel about them and how important they are to us.  But the sad reality is that often they don’t.

So how can you write a love letter that you will feel proud to give and one that your loved one will cherish for all time?  Where do you start?  Follow these easy tips below and you’ll be on your way in no time.

 1.            First write down 5 to 10 things that you love about your partner and be as specific as possible.  Rather than writing that they are kind, instead be detailed about how they are kind.  Perhaps they always smile at kids or they are great at making a perfect sweet tea.

 2.            Write down 5 to 10 things that they have done that confirms how much you love them and again, give examples.  Perhaps they enveloped you in a hug last night when you were feeling frustrated about your job.  Or maybe they knew how disappointed you were when you missed out on that friends vacation and they swept you away for a special weekend to cheer you up.

 3.            Pick the best three examples from each of the above categories and weave them into your letter.  You could start by saying ‘I love how you…’ and then include the three examples from the first point.  Then you could say something like ‘I admired the way you…’ and then mention the other examples.  Make sure you emphasis how their actions made you feel, how loved you felt and how grateful you are to have them in your life.

 4.            It is best to write up a draft first and then go over it to see if you can improve it. Sometimes it helps to write up what you want to say, edit it until it flows well and then leave it for a day or two before going back for a final edit and polish.

 5.            Buy some special paper and write out your letter.  Don’t worry if your handwriting isn’t perfect – it’s distinctly yours, which makes the letter that much more special! Your loved one will appreciate the time and effort you put into the letter.  If you feel your writing is so bad it will be difficult to read or if your illegible handwriting is something you’ve argued about before then pay to get it hand written by a professional.  At a stretch you could use a more romantic font on your computer, say Garamond in italic, but you should really only do that as a last resort.   The more personal you can make your letter the more your loved one will treasure it.

 6.            Think about how you plan on delivering this letter to them.  Will you slip it in their briefcase?  Mail it?  Leave it under the pillow? Send it by courier? Do you want to be there when they open it?  If you want to see their reaction, then it is best to hand it to them in person.  You could compliment the letter with a small gift like flowers or chocolate but make sure the gift doesn’t diminish the letter as you want that to be the main focus.

I recently dined at White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails (WOKC) with friends.  We started off with salads. The Pressed Watermelon Salad had a very unique flavor.  It was topped with Corn Bread Panzanella and on top of the cold fresh lettuce were peeled Bouchard Farms Tomatoes, Cerignol Olive Vinaigrette, and New Herbs.  If you like mushrooms, you should try the Warm Mushroom Salad with grilled Radicchio, House made Beef Jerky, Semolina Streusel, topped with Tangy Pimento Buttermilk Dressing.

For appetizers my friends and I shared the Sugarcane Roasted Quail Breasts with house made Pancetta, bread and butter onions, griddled Brioche, Tallegio, and Agrodolce, which was something I had never tried, but It tasted amazing. The Quail Breasts were seared and seasoned to perfection, and very succulent. It’s a perfect dish for sharing and maybe feeding your date.  We also shared the Pimento Cheese, a creamy Sharp White Cheddar spread on a crispy wafer stacked between Fried Green Tomatoes and Crushed Plant. The City Strawberry Jam made this appetizer one of my favorites.

White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails knows a thing or two about frying a bird.  For dinner I recommend the Caramel Fried Chicken which has Pickled Vegetables, their perfect Pan Gravy, and a side of Fleur de Sel Potato Chips, which are made in house and are very delicious.

My favorite part of the night was the cocktails. WOKC makes cocktails crafted from their homemade syrups, garnishes and freshly squeezed juices.  If you enjoy Bourbon, I recommend their Old Fashioned.

Meet A Mogul for Atlanta’s Busy Single Entrepreneurs & Professionals

Plan a “speed dating style” tasting event. Invite select guest, media, friends, and socialites out to taste samples from your menu selection. First decide on how many mini dishes you’ll premier. We suggest 10-12. Be sure to have a good mixture of samples including entree’s, wines, signature cocktails, appetizers, and desserts.

Once you’ve selected your sample menu. It’s time to plan your Speed Tasting event. Set up a portion of your restaurant with tables that can seat multiple guests. (Tip: It is much easier if you are using hi-top tables without chairs.) Be sure to have space available for photos, mingling, and dining.

Have your staff (including the owner, chef, servers and bartenders) stationed at each table. Number the tables (1 thru 12) with a table marker or sign so people know where to go next. Make sure everyone understand to go in numerical order once their tasting time is up.

At each table you will have a different item to taste or sip. Make sure that all the food looks and tastes great! Samples should be large enough to enjoy, but small enough to entice an appetite for MORE!

During the tasting the Host of each table will introduce the item or items being sampled or paired. The host introduces himself and then can talks about the history of the item, how the item is made, and so on for the first couple of minutes. Each guest has a score card and rates the items at each table (ex: rating of 1-5 with room for notes and contact info)

The guest visit each table, meeting each host (including the owner and chef), and have the opportunity to mingle with other guest, sip, chat, and enjoy the restaurant’s ambiance.

The guest go from table to table (in groups of no more than 6) and at the last table is  finalizes their score cards and submits them to the Host.

Let go over things

For example: You’ve invited 60 guest to attend this event. Each guest is then assigned a group. You will have a dozen groups and 12 tables with 12 different menu items.

Everyone in group A begins at table 1 (which is sampling a Peach Mimosa)

Everyone in group B begins at table 2 (which is sampling Miss Merry’s Mac n’ Cheese)

Everyone in group C begins at table 3 (Which is sampling LampChop LollyPops)

You get the drift,

Once the sampling time (5 minutes for each sampling) is up, each group takes notes and moves to the next table in numerical order (anyone who was at table 5 will then go to table 6)

Once everyone has experienced each host and sample, the sampling notes are collected (completed with name, email, and contact info) by the table host or event Emcee.

What to do with the data collected.

So now you have 60 surveys on your menu items, your hosts, and the restaurant/ event experience. You’ll use that information for testimonials, suggestions, social media, and to help cater to your customers. Additionally, you now have 60 customers to add to your mailing list.

Following the event, be sure to create an offer to send the participants that will prompt them to return. Perhaps a free dessert, 50% off, complimentary cocktail, Buy 1, Get 1 deals, etc.

You can either host an event like this one that is Complimentary to selected guest (from you email list or personal invites) or you can charge. Either way, the purpose is to make more money, increase brand visibility, add Events to your calendar, and engage with your customers.

You can always have a liquor company sponsor the event or find other sponsors. If charging, be sure to make it worth the value so customers feel like they can’t pass it up. After all, if your restaurant staff is friendly, food is tasty, and drinks are on point– they WILL return and spread the word.

As you can see I’ve been busy– but this all sort of just happened! Serendipity, I guess… but I’m loving every minute of it. Hosting my own speed dating events have come to a bit of a hiatus, however, I still get to plan speed dating events for charities, clients, and friends. I get many requests for planning private events as well. I miss hosting the events, I love the interaction and the amazing singles that I get to meet.

Once my book is published and all of the “businessy” aspect of my business in in complete order, I do plan on hosting events!

For now I’m focusing on helping others host events, plan events, and start speed dating business. My speed dating kit can help with all of those things.
