This weekend I had time to reconnect with an old friend. He invited me out for dinner and cocktails. Originally we were going to Bar One, however, we ended up at H. Harper Station on Memorial Drive. I walked in as I though, this is so going in the blog. I chose this spot as a fantastic first date pick for many reasons, but drinks are at the top of the list. I can not quite remember what I ordered, but everything was made from fresh herbs, fruits, and garnishes. I ordered something with strawberries and they were as fresh as the ones I remember picking in my grandmothers garden, The bartender was cool and we even got a fire show from the owner who was behind the bar bartending during our stay. When the food came out, I seriously wanted to take a picture, but I my phone didn’t have enough juice (by the way, I’m not really the type to take food pics). So you’ll just have to take my word, or better yet plan your first date there. The lighting was just perfect, no loud music, no huge crowd, it was perfect. There is even a little courtyard type patio outside for you yo gaze at the moon and enjoy the spring breeze on a beautiful night. Great spot for a first kiss! Anyway, it’s located downtown at 904 Memorial Dr SE in Atlanta, GA. They are open from Tuesday through Saturday. Call for exact hours and enjoy your fantastic first date!

I met Kasey last Friday at a carryout near my condo. I was talking to the owner about winning the Mega Millions Lottery and how I would throw him a cool mil, after I won. Somehow our conversation became public when two other gentlemen joined in. We laughed on while we picked our numbers. The tall guy with the Ethiopian facial features stepped next to me and asked if he could borrow my pen. He also asked if I could write my number down.

“I’m sorry, have we met?” I asked politely. Knowing good and well I didn’t know him at all. He answered “No, but you seem like the kind of lady a man like myself needs to know. What’s your name?”

“It’s Miller.” I said with a half smirk. “I’m Kasey, but you can call me V”, he responded. Wondering what the V was for, I extended my hand as he said “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miller.” We shook, and I scratched in my unlucky numbers 12-28-31-33-48. We had a bit of a conversation in line before we checked out. He seemed alright, kind quirky, but cool conversation and quite handsome I’ll say. On the way out of the store, he invited my to a party he was having the next day. He gave me 2 VIP passes he had in his truck, then asked for my phone number again. I handed him my card and told him to call me with the party details.

Later that evening he called me with the details of the party. I couldn’t make it, but he insisted that I meet him for lunch on Saturday. We met up, and the entertainment began.

When I walked up V was already there waiting by his car. For some odd reason he had all of his car doors open. Maybe he wanted to air out his car or flaunt the fact that the interior of his Dodge Charger was custom. Who knows. I rolled my eyes as I pretended to not notice and headed for the door. “Yo Miller!” he spotted me about to walk in. I turned around “Oh hey, there you are. I didn’t notice that was you. You changed whips me.” He shut all 4 doors then we walked into the restaurant.

We sat a cross from each other in a little booth. I knew I was going to order a double shot of Patron, quite necessary to make it through this date I imagined. Just before the drinks came out, I noticed he was rocking two watches, one on each wrist. After we took shots of Patron, I inquired if he was aware that he’s waled out the house with both watches on. His respond was exactly as follows:

“Oh, yea, I just bought these two today. I got into a fight like a month ago and broke my watch. So I had to buy a new one. I couldn’t decide, so I just said fuck it and bought both of them. And now I’m tryna see which one I like better.”

(Of course I’m thinking: How lame… What 34 year old still fights in the club, wait, what 34 year old still goes to the club? He’s lying… I bet he was thinking I’d be impressed…They don’t look brand new. What does that have to do with you wearing them both? Is this a Rick Ross Same Damn Time Remix? OMG, he is so wack!)

My response: Oh, ok. (Nodding)

And that’s where he lost me. I came back when he started sharing with me that he had full custody of his 8 month old daughter. I thought that was commendable. Something about being a single dad rocks my socks! Anyway, I was back paying attention to what he was saying. Maybe I was being to judgmental. Was it too soon to decide rather he was a good catch or not? He’s probably just not used to dating a “real woman”. He did mention he was in the music industry, so he’s probably used to dating video vixon bitches who think that shit is cute.

When he asked me out for a second date. I told him that I’d be looking forward to it and to give me a call later during the week to set something up.

Yesterday, we went on our second date. Damn, damn, damn. He killed me with the freakin’ man bag! All he talked about was shopping at the new Prada store and buying his LV luggage for an upcoming trip. As a matter of fact, right in the middle of a story I was telling him, he cut me off to say “remind me to stop at the Fendi store to pick up that bag I left…”. I was annoyed, and very much ready to get the hell out of there. To make it even worse the the woman next to us kept trying to make light conversation to him. Asking him about the menu, the area, name dropping etc. She got on my damn nerves too! Then we ordered drinks. I ordered a mojito with EXTRA rum… he ordered a strawberry lemon drop martini (the DJ makes the scratch sound and all movement stops) yes, that’s right HE ordered a STRAWBERRY LEMONDROP MARTINI. He lost so many cool points right there. He was not my type instantly. He’d have been better asking if they carried Colt 45. At least he would still have his “hood card”. I was irritated. The bartender looked at me, I acted like I had no idea what was said or ordered on his part. She recited the order back as I struggled to remain mature and not burst into laughing. I was a 100% defeat when he order another one… but asked ” this time can you put sugar around the rim and add a few strawberries” then made mention of how good they tasted like that.

We ate talking a bit here and there. I decided to let him do the talking. If he really wanted to know more about me and was genuinely interested, he would shut the fuck up and let me tell him how amazing I was. Or at least ask me a few questions and listen to the full answers. I got the memo: It was all about V.

We left and headed back to his place, where my car was parked. As we pulled up, he asked me to come in and chill for a bit. I set my phone to alarm (with ringer #3) for exactly 17 minutes. I would fake like I had to pick my mother up from the airport, and gracefully exit. No harm, no foul.

As soon as I walked in I smelled ATL’s finest bunches of Kush smoke in the air. I don’t smoke, but I swear, it smelled so exotic and enticing. He waled over to his dresser where the kush was and asked “Do you smoke?”

“It’s not really my thing, but thanks. I can roll up for you if you’d like, seems like you’re having a bit of trouble” I teased. He took me up on my offer. I split the cigarillo, dumped the tobacco, and broke down the weed. I felt high just smelling it. I finished licking the blunt to close it up. “Damn, you have some sexy lips, come here.” he demanded calmly. I walked over handing him the kush cigarillo and lighter. “Girl, I can’t wait to I’m kissing those lips, and those lips. Hey, you you give head?” Rolling my eyes, I lifted my shades up, and in my most sexy tome said: “Oh, you won’t have to worry about that, at all.” Thinking to myself, because after I leave you won’t ever see me again, clown!

My alarm went of and as planned I was out. He called me a few times, but I let the phone go to voicemail. This morning I answered the phone with my blutooth while it was on the charger in the kitchen. It was V. Damn, I though, what the fuck he want?

Him: “Hey Mami, I’m tryna take you our to brunch or something, can you make time for me? I have to run into Fendi, but that’ll only take a second.”

Me: “We’ll I have a conference call in a bit and a meeting later, I’m not sure that will work.”

Him: “Look mami, I’m really into you, and I’m feeling you. I been lonely on the grind and I just want to spend some time with a special lady. Try to make time for me today yo, I don’t care if it’s just a few hours. As long as it’s enough time to grab a bit, roll one up, get some good love making in and…”

Me: “I’m sorry, are you referring to sex?”

Him: “It that all you heard? I said a whole lot of other things too baby.”

Me: “Well you didn’t say the right thing at all. For starters, we are NOT HAVING SEX! I’ve only know you for 5 days and I’m not even sure if I want to see your ass again. You seem to enjoy talking about yourself vs learning about me, you ordered a fuckin martini, and you claim you’re about to walk in to the Fendi store but forgot to ask me what my favorite color was!” So, no I don’t have time for you or your game of charades and shenanigans.

Him: “Well damn mami, that’s what’s on your mind? Look I feel that, we ain’t gotta have sex right now, that’s gonna come naturally. I just want to make you feel special and spend a lil’ time with you before I go on this trip.”

Me: “Well, I’m not feeling how you just came at me. Actually, I’m not really feeling anything about you. I have to go. Later.”

He missed the whole point and I wasn’t about to waste the time to explain to him. Instead, I called up my girls and we all laughed about the nonsense that went on over the last week. They all agreed, it was definitely him (not me). Besides. I met someone today, so I guess we’ll see how that goes.

Since that conversation, V has called 9 times, left 3, messages, and sent 4 texts. All of which have been ignored. Maybe I’m harsh, maybe I’m a little bourgeois, or maybe he was just not the one. Now it’s on to the next one.

I wanted to share this amazing spot with all of you. After deep consideration, I’ve decided to give up my favorite spot to share with all of my readers, followers, daters, and friends. I happened to stumble upon this location when I first moved to Atlanta in 2009. I was apartment hunting and by sheer serendipity, I found one of my favorite spots. Right along the Chattahoochee River, this Land of a Thousand Hills coffee shop is located on the premises of an apartment complex (Walton on the Chattahoochee) . It’s a perfect spot for a first date for A Thousand reasons, but my favorite is because of breathtaking view of the Chattahoochee River.

There menu options are are phenomenal also, if you order a latte you’ll see what I mean. To add to that, there is a variety of space that can easily take any date from regular to romantic. For instance, you can enjoy sipping your coffee and nibbling your sandwiches while watching the river flow. Or you can bring a blanket and have an “impromptu” picnic while laying back on the lawn just below while enjoying the sun, and pointing out cloud figures together. The setting can be relaxed, intimate, romantic, or friendly… you’ll be able to make it into what fits your mood best.

Whatever you decide, just make it a point to add this groovy spot to your “date spot lineup”. And when you do email me a quick thanks! Yes, I’m that confident you and your date will absolutely love it.

Land of a Thousand Hills is located at:

6640 Akers Mill Rd.

Atlanta, GA 30339

My pick of the week for first date spot is Botekim Brazilian Bistro in Marietta. This cute little restaurant has a great menu selection as well as an amazing wine and cocktail selection. I suggest trying starting out with the “Bolinho De Aipim Com Carne” (Yucca Fritters) with a Mango Martini cocktail. Rather you’re sitting at the bar or at a table for two, you’ll enjoy the smooth ambiance of international Brazilian flavor, and not just in the food. I personally like this spot because the food is consistently delicious and their staff makes you feel like a VIP guest. If you’re looking to try something a bit different, and even exotic to make for a special first date– This is my pick. You can’t go wrong on a first date here– unless you don’t show up.

Botekim Brazilian Bistro is located @ 1410 Terrell Mill Road SE | Marietta, GA 30067

Love is in the air and the woman you have been eyeing has agreed to go on a date with you. What will you do now? Don’t stress about planning your a date with her at all. Remember, good planning is essential to make your first date a success. Men, your lady wants you to be and plan a great romantic first date that she will remember for years. So, here are a few of my “can’t go wrong” tips. She’s already seen something in you that she likes, now is your time to show her what a gentleman you are.

Special Planning

The first date should not be lengthy. Keep aside 2-3 hours for it. You can plan activities that are sufficient for these few hours. A cup of coffee or a meal and then some fun activity will be enough to start a great relationship and memorable first date.
Choose the venue thoughtfully. If you have coffee or a meal in mind, pick a place that is close to her residence. Do not make her travel or deal with traffic for hours to come and meet you. The place must be quiet where both of you can talk comfortably with plenty of lighting and sitting arrangements. You do not have to tax your wallet and go for a fancy restaurant. A nice restaurant that serves good food and drinks should be enough. If possible, pick a place you frequently go to so that you know the type of service they offer and food is on the menu. This way you can make a suggestion or order something special for her to try.

It is not necessary to buy a gift for a first date; however, you can never go wrong with flowers or chocolates to give your date when you arrive. Believe me, this will make her night even more memorable and make you look like a romantic prince. Do not forget to compliment her for her looks. If you know her taste, you can plan accordingly. Spending some quality time in a bookstore or in an art gallery may prove to be quite memorable. I personally do not recommend going for a movie because it does not allow you to share your thoughts much. Choose an activity that both of you will enjoy. If your date is of adventurous type, you can even think of going for a short hiking or visiting the zoo or an amusement park.

Super Fresh

Other than planning for the date, ensure personal grooming so that you smell and look your best. Wear clean and ironed clothes that fit you. Wear semi-formal or formal clothes depending on the places you plan to visit. Be ready with some funny jokes that will make her laugh and enjoy your company. Do not linger the date even if you want to hang around her. Keep the first date short and sweet. If she the feeling is mutual, there will be plenty of time to share with one another.
Be sure to look your best, get a haircut, shower, shave, the basics. Wear your favorite cologne; women love it when a man smells nice and fresh! Be yourself and look confident. Wear your best smile and make the date exciting and special. Don’t leave your charm or manners at home either. Remember to open a few doors, pull out her chair, and make sure she feels comfortable. And whatever you do, get there on time.

I’ve decided to start blogging! About what you ask? Only the juiciest relationship topics… or actual encounters that contributors have personally experienced or witnessed. I hope you like the style, stories, and ideas on relationships, dating, and living life in Atlanta as a singles (among other random topics).

I am a single mother who owns and operates two businesses so my schedule is hectic. With family and business dating is a major challenge. I don’t have a lot of time to waste on bullshit and my patience is short. I’ve become a bit picky because of what I know and who I’ve become. Never giving up on love (or anything I’m serious about), my romantic soul knows the “perfect” mate is coming. I can only be myself and enjoy the journey along the way until I get there. In the interim I’ll be sharing with you some experiences that will hopefully help in some way (or at least provide free entertainment).

I can’t wait to start sharing this stuff with you guys! Please give feedback and share some of your comments! I hope that each reader can take something away from every posting. Please check back soon for our 1st blog post. I have not come up with a name for the blog yet, and I’m open to any suggestions.

Don’t forget to come to our next event. We have lots of fun and invite some of the most amazing singles out just to meet you.

Thanks!
